Embassy Encourages Students to Stay Safe Online

On March 13, 2019, 34 students joined the TechWomen program alumna, Christelle Mekuate, to discuss safe practices on the Internet.  Cultural Affairs Officer Will Romine, remarked mentioned that the Internet is a great tool to assist students with schoolwork and research, but also cautioned about the risk of being in the digital world. It is important for young people to learn how to keep themselves safe from cyber bullying or be cautious about violent extremism.

The speaker and students discussed the need to consider the type of personal information posted, to reduce the number of contacts with unknown persons, to limit in person meeting with online contacts, and above all to reach out to an adult when pressured to join unknown groups.
