IVLP Alumna Create Cameroon’s First Association of Female Journalists

During a four day symposium, 50 female journalists joined forces to create Cameroon’s first ever women media association. They unanimously elected seasoned journalist Becky Bissong as their president.  During the workshop, they shared strategies for covering the upcoming presidential elections.  They also used this monumental gathering to discuss the path forward for their new organization.  Acting Public Affairs Officer Will Romine, while handling certificates to participants, citing the gathering as “an historic moment” and urged them to “serve no interests other than the truth”.  The U.S Embassy sponsored the symposium  to empower women and ensure through, credible coverage of the upcoming elections.  Cameroon’s Minister of Communication and the Acting Deputy Chief of Mission opened the symposium with encouraging remarks and sage guidance.
