U.S. Embassy spokesperson and Public Affairs Officer Roberto Quiroz II greets Journalist Charles EbuneOn November 1, 2016, Journalist Charles Ebune, host of CRTV’s “Globewatch,” conducted an interview with U.S. Embassy spokesperson and Public Affairs Officer Roberto Quiroz II on the process of the U.S. presidential elections.  Interview questions discussed themes on democracy and the processes undertaken by political parties from the primaries and national conventions through election day on November 8, 2016.  Mr. Ebune also asked about the Electoral College system and the traditional role of the media in the U.S. elections.  “As envisioned by the Founding Fathers during our beginnings as a nation and enshrined in our Constitution, the American people will decide through their votes who their elected officials will be. The participation of citizens in their democratic processes and the role of a free and independent media are essential to strengthen democracy in the United States and other nations. Under our system, there is also a law known as the Hatch Act prohibiting federal employees from engaging in political activities or use of their office to influence an election.”  The CRTV interview will air Friday this week.
