On the morning of Thursday September 8, 2016, American NBA Sports Envoy in Cameroon Charlie Bell and Astou Ndiaye visited the Lycee de Mballa II Government High School in Yaounde. Along with General Service Office Olga Tunga and Cultural Affairs Assistant Olivia Mukam, the Sports Envoy met with the Principal of the High School, who expressed her immense delight to receive a delegation from the United States in her school. She assured the visitors that basketball is a key sport that the school uses to encourage its 4,000 students to excel, that’s why the basketball court is in the center of the school. The coach of the Government High School Patrick Mba was a recipient of the NBA Jr League Coach training, and half a dozen of students from Lycee de Mballa II. Charlie Bell and Astou Ndiaye offered basketball clinics to 20 student basketball players of the school.

After the basketball drills, the students exchanged with the NBA and WNBA ex-players on their career as basketball players, the sacrifices they made, and the decisions they took during difficult times. Following that, the Sports envoys visited 3 classes : 12th Grade, 9th Grade, and 6th Grade to exchange with close to 500 students on the game of basketball, and on life skills to reach one’s goals. Half of the students had never heard of the NBA and none had ever met players who performed at such a high level of competition.
