U.S. Ambassador Urges Cameroon to do More in the Fight against Trafficking in Persons

On March 7, 2018, the U.S. Embassy brought together policy makers, scholars, lawyers and leading human rights organizations for a discussion on the theme: “Working for Justice and Peace: The Journey of a Woman Engaged Against Trafficking in Persons,” with 2013 Trafficking in Persons Report Hero, Laura Anyola. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Peter Barlerin commended efforts undertaken by all actors including the government of Cameroon and NGOs to break the cycle of this “modern day slavery.” However, he added, “the Government of Cameroon must do more to address Cameroon’s position as a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children trafficked for the purposes of forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation.” Full speech .
