On August 29, 2018, Ambassador Peter Henry Barlerin visited participants in the “My YALI Family Holiday Camp for Orphans” at the Nkolbisson Technical High School in Yaounde. Organized by the YALI West Africa Alumni Association of Cameroon with funding from the U.S. Embassy, this camp brought together fifty orphans from all ten regions of Cameroon and fifty YALI alumni for four days of skills development and creative hands-on activities around the theme of “Strengthening Youth Resilience to Radicalization and Violent Extremism through Positive Mind Development and Mentorship.” Ambassador Barlerin encouraged participants to strive to achieve their dreams, against all odds. “The U.S. Embassy is committed to supporting Cameroonian youth to fully develop their potential in order to effectively contribute to the development of their country,” Ambassador Barlerin added, before presenting a school kit to each of the children. Following the camp, YALI Alumni will be paired with participating orphans to continue to mentor them throughout the year.
