The U.S. Embassy condemns the continued escalation of attacks by armed individuals in recent weeks targeting schoolchildren, teachers, and religious and traditional leaders in the Northwest and Southwest Regions. The attacks against schoolchildren and schoolteachers are particularly concerning. Every child must be allowed to learn in
safety, and every teacher must be safe as they help students learn. We stand in solidarity with the students, teachers, and leaders such as Cardinal Tumi and the Fon of Nso who have been targeted in Kumbo, Limbe, Bamenda, and other communities. Perpetrators of such attacks and those who condone these actions demonstrate a disregard for the social fabric of communities in both regions and for peace and prosperity in Cameroon. We support all those who speak out for dialogue and peace and an end to the senseless killings and violence.
