U.S. Condemns Spate of Violent Attacks
Thursday, January 14, 2021

The U.S. Embassy strongly condemns the spate of violent attacks by disparate actors in various regions of Cameroon since the start of the year that have left scores of innocent civilians dead and wounded. We offer our deepest condolences to all those affected by attacks carried out in Mbengwi, which resulted in the death of Momo Divisional Delegate of Communication Becky Jeme Iyabo, among others; in Mozogo, Far North Region; in Matazen on the border of the West and Northwest Regions; and, in Mautu, Southwest Region. The innocent lives cut short were robbed of the opportunity to serve their families and communities, while the wounded will have to bear the physical and emotional scars of their ordeal. Swift, impartial, and thorough investigations must be carried out in all of these attacks so that the perpetrators are held accountable and justice is served for the victims, their loved ones, and the people of Cameroon.
