Yaoundé, Cameroon — The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce that the application period for the 2024 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders is now open!  The application deadline is September 12, 2023, at 11:30 a.m.  All applications must be submitted online at the following address: mwfellows.info/apply.

Funded by the U.S. Government, the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders (MWF) is the flagship exchange program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), the United States’ signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders.  Since 2014, 158 Cameroonians out of nearly 7,000 young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa have participated in the Fellowship.  Selected fellows between the ages of 25 and 35 are accomplished leaders in their organizations and communities, and upon their return, bring about positive impact across the country.

In 2024, the Fellowship will provide 700 outstanding young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa with the opportunity to hone their skills at a U.S. college or university with support for professional development after they return home.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship is an unparalleled opportunity to:

  • Participate in a six-week academic, cultural, professional and leadership exchange program at a top U.S. university in one of three different leadership tracks: Business, Civic Engagement, or Public Management;
  • Meet with U.S. Government, civic, and business leaders; and
  • Be a part of a dynamic network with opportunities for continued leadership and career enhancement.
