On November 5, Public Affairs Officer Roberto Quiroz II welcomed Mr. Prince Mabengue to the U.S. Embassy in Yaounde, who was recently certified as the first FIFA licensed match agent in Cameroon. During his visit, Mr. Mabengue lauded the strong talent and love of Cameroonian youth for the sport of football (soccer), which he said “provides the skills and basis to succeed in academic and all other professional goals: self-preparation, training, teamwork, sacrifice, perseverance, learning how to win, how to lose, and how to compete again in good spirit.” Mr. Mabengue noted that he was encouraged by the strong support of sports and youth development at all levels in the government and civil society, and looks forward to strengthening partnerships with the private sector. He also added that his vision is to promote sports programs with youth, women, and girls in all then regions, especially in the Far North and North regions.
“There is nothing in football we Cameroonians who love the sport cannot do. I look forward to meeting Cameroonian youth and hopefully serve to promote their talent at home and abroad. My message to them is never to give up. Where there’s hope there is life and all of us must prepare ourselves to contribute to our country with the best of our individual talents and positive contributions to enhance the lives of our fellow citizens. These are not individual efforts solely for self-advancement, they are community oriented. As in a football team, if one wins the whole team wins. Together we can put forward our best efforts to serve our country.”
Mr. Quiroz congratulated Mr. Mabengue on his certification as Cameroon’s first FIFA match agent, and said: “As Ambassador Michael S. Hoza has said, one of the United States of America’s highest priorities is to promote youth partnerships for development through ideas from Cameroonians for Cameroonians. Sports and education are central to those goals. Cameroonians are known around the world as among the greatest fans and athletes of football, and we are delighted that you have a vision in place to serve young people around this country as well as to promote their talents in their own communities and beyond.”
