United States Condemns Attacks by Extremist Groups in Far North

The U.S. Embassy strongly condemns the brutal attacks by violent extremist groups targeting civilians in the Far North. Trends indicate an increasing frequency of attacks and rising death tolls, undermining the region’s stability and compromising the provision of lifesaving assistance to more than one million vulnerable people. Recent attacks in the Mayo Sava division, leaving at least 7 dead and 14 wounded, and on the Lake Chad island of Bulgaram, where 14 community leaders were killed in a targeted attack for refusing the demands of extremists, show a cowardly strategy of preying on the weak and vulnerable. We offer our condolences to all those bereaved by these acts.
